Daisy’s Story: How Training Gave This Rescue Dog A New Start
Apr 05, 2025At DogSports4U Academy, we love all dogs — and we feel incredibly fortunate to make a career out of helping them and their humans become stronger teams together.
One of the most meaningful parts of our work is contributing to causes bigger than ourselves: supporting law enforcement, military veterans, and rescue organizations. We are deeply grateful for those who dedicate their lives to helping animals in need — people like Leslie, a volunteer who spends her time and heart rescuing Rottweilers through GGAR Rottie Rescue.
This story is about Daisy, a sweet Rottweiler who came from an abusive situation. By the time Leslie brought Daisy to us for evaluation, she had already done amazing work — Daisy knew her basic commands and was on her way to becoming a wonderful companion. But there was one big challenge ahead.
Daisy’s adoptive mom, Rosemary, is a devoted Rottweiler lover who had several of them over the years. But now, older and less steady on her feet, she was struggling with Daisy’s strength and excitable energy. Even with Daisy’s good intentions, her exuberance became dangerous — Rosemary was accidentally tripped and pushed, ending up in the ER. Despite this heartbreaking challenge, Rosemary was committed to making it work.
Leslie and I knew we had to give them a chance. The alternative for Daisy wasn’t looking good — rescue organizations are overwhelmed, with far more dogs in need than foster homes available. But we also had to make it work within a budget.
We evaluated the situation, looked at everyone involved, and built a customized plan. And you know what? It worked! The journey is still ongoing, but watching Rosemary and Daisy grow together has been truly heartwarming.
I am so grateful to Leslie and all rescue volunteers for their tireless work — and so proud to play a small part in helping stories like this unfold.
Here’s Leslie’s update in her own words:
"Thanks to Olga and DogSports4U Academy, our rescue GGAR Rottie Rescue was able to get some needed training for an abused, homeless Rottie to pair with a lonely senior who had just lost her Rottie. All made possible through this wonderful and caring training facility."
Everyone who opens their heart to a rescue dog deserves support, guidance, and solutions.
